Mr. Gruetzner is currently working responsible for international business development for Canadian–based e-signature firm Syngrafii Inc.
He is also the co-founder of Intercedent, a business and investment advisory firm founded in 1988 focused on Asia and remains involved. He still serves as non-Executive Chairperson.
John Gruetzner received a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Toronto and studied Mandarin Chinese at the University of Nankai in Tianjin.
Prior to returning to Canada, he lived and worked in China for over 35 years.
He is a director on a number of private sector Boards. He is also volunteer Co-Chair of the Pelee Island Bird Observatory, Co-head of the Steering Committee for E-Ranger Lab and active in the formation of the China Policy Centre.
Mr. Gruetzner contributes articles to a number of publications and lectures to universities and companies on political, economic and business issues in Asia.
He is a Fellow of the Canadian Global Affairs Institute.
